<h1>Looking for a Smallpdf alternative?</h1>
<p class="article-meta">ClientPDF Comparison · a 4-minute read</p>
<p>
Smallpdf built its reputation on a clean, simple interface for common PDF
tasks, and it's genuinely pleasant to use. People still look for an
alternative for familiar reasons: the free tier caps how many tasks you
can run before it asks you to subscribe, the subscription is priced for
regular use rather than the occasional file, and — like any tool that
processes your document on its servers — your file has to leave your
device to get worked on, which matters if what you're handling is
sensitive.
</p>
<h2>ClientPDF, in one paragraph</h2>
<p>
<a href="./index.html">ClientPDF</a> is a free set of PDF tools that run
100% inside your browser tab. There's no upload step, because there's
nothing to upload to — the processing happens locally using
<a href="https://github.com/Hopding/pdf-lib" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pdf-lib</a>,
a JavaScript library. No account, no email, no file-size gate, no daily
cap. You can confirm this yourself in about 10 seconds: open DevTools,
watch the Network tab, and run any tool — <a href="./guide.html">here's
the exact test</a>.
</p>
<h2>What Smallpdf does well</h2>
<p>
Smallpdf earned its popularity honestly: a well-designed, easy-to-follow
interface, OCR for scanned documents, e-signature collection, PDF-to-Word
and PDF-to-Excel conversion, integration with cloud storage like Google
Drive and Dropbox, and desktop and mobile apps for working outside a
browser tab. If your workflow depends on any of that, it's real,
functioning capability that ClientPDF doesn't currently offer.
</p>

<h2>Who should switch to ClientPDF</h2>
<p>
If you use a PDF tool once in a while — compressing a file before an
email, rotating a page, deleting a couple of pages from a report — and
you'd rather not run into a subscription prompt for something this small,
ClientPDF handles the same job with no wall to hit. It's also the better
fit if the actual concern is privacy: anything you'd rather not send to a
third-party server, even temporarily, stays on your device the whole time.
</p>
<h2>Who shouldn't switch</h2>
<p>
If you rely on OCR to make scanned documents searchable, need e-signature
collection built into the same tool, convert PDFs to editable Word or
Excel regularly, or sync files directly with cloud storage, Smallpdf
covers ground ClientPDF doesn't. Plenty of people reasonably use both:
Smallpdf for the specialized jobs, ClientPDF for the everyday page work
that doesn't need a server in the middle.
</p>
<h2>Switching over</h2>
<p>
There's nothing to migrate. No account to close, no files to export —
ClientPDF doesn't store anything of yours to begin with. Just open the
<a href="./tools.html">tool you need</a> and use it directly next time,
instead of uploading to a server first.
</p>
<div class="cta-box">
<p><strong>Try it now:</strong> <a href="./compress.html">compress a PDF</a>, <a href="./rotate.html">fix a sideways scan</a>, or <a href="./watermark.html">stamp a watermark on every page</a> — no upload, no account, DevTools open if you want proof.</p>
