xsct on raspberry pi 4 with armbian 23

xrandr works on a raspberry pi 4b with armbian. when i use xsct and then check the color temperature, in terminal it says that it's what i set it to. 3200, 3400, etc. but nothing changes on the screen. is there something i'm missing?

xrandr | grep Screen

xrandr works. and when use xsct it tells me that it's the correct color temp i just picked, but the screen/monitor does not change color temp.
