# AE NetScope v0.1.6-alpha

AE NetScope v0.1.6-alpha is an early public preview focused on passive topology, safer update handling, Docker/TrueNAS upgrade safety, stronger automated testing, and improved GitHub Actions validation.

## Important

This is an **Early public preview, not production ready**.

This release may be usable for controlled testing, homelab review, and non-sensitive trial environments. Do not use it with sensitive production network data yet. APIs, database schema, permission boundaries, security controls, deployment guidance, and UI behavior may change before v1.0.

AE NetScope is free and open source software released under the MIT License.

## Highlights

- Updated internal project version to `0.1.6-alpha`.
- Added a passive Topology view with expandable subnets, VLAN context, linked devices, linked IPs, and unassigned-IP visibility.
- Improved Dashboard recent activity so long audit text does not overlap.

## Upgrade Safety

Docker Compose users should update with:

docker compose pull
docker compose up -d

Do not run:

docker compose down -v

That command deletes PostgreSQL, Redis, and migration-backup volumes.

Upgrade safety notes:

• Existing PostgreSQL and Redis volume names are preserved.
• A PostgreSQL pre-migration backup is created in /app/backups when AE_NETSCOPE_PRE_MIGRATION_BACKUP=true.
• Docker migration backups are stored in the ae_netscope_backups volume by default.
• TrueNAS users should update through the TrueNAS Apps interface.
• No destructive Alembic migration is introduced in this release.

Docker And TrueNAS Validation

Validated locally with Docker Desktop:

• Docker image builds successfully.
• docker compose config --quiet passes.
• docker/entrypoint.sh passes shell syntax validation.
• Alembic migrations run to head.
• alembic check reports no schema drift.
• Existing Compose PostgreSQL and Redis volumes remain attached.
• The added backup volume is separate from application data.
• Web production build completes successfully.

TrueNAS packaging notes:

• TrueNAS app metadata targets AE NetScope v0.1.6-alpha.
• TrueNAS image tag targets ghcr.io/whiteassassins/ae-netscope:v0.1.6-alpha.
• TrueNAS installs keep updates managed by the TrueNAS Apps interface.
• Migration backups are mounted at /app/backups.

Known Limitations

• This alpha is still not production ready.
• Network scanning/discovery is not enabled.
• In-app automatic updates are disabled unless explicitly configured for Docker installs.
• TrueNAS users must update from the TrueNAS Apps interface.
• Use only with non-sensitive demo, homelab, or test data.
