Disabling synchronize read state does not work

Deactivation works only for a limited period of time, after which the messages appear again as not being read although there are no other new messages and the option is deactivated in the settings.

Reinstalling the extension appears to fix the issue, there must be something in the read state transfer logic from sync to local that's causing weird behavior. Further investigation is needed.
