"""log_check — a desktop log-checker for ham-radio contest logs.
Loads an ADIF (.adi/.adif) or Cabrillo (.log) contest log and runs two
integrity checks, highlighting the suspect QSOs right in an editable table:
1. Rare DXCC — QSOs whose worked entity is on the "most wanted" list
(rare.json). In a domestic contest a stray P5/Bouvet is
almost always a busted callsign. Highlighted PINK.
2. Exchange — pick the received-exchange field (auto-detected; override in
the drop-down). A station sends the same exchange all
contest, so when the value disagrees across that station's
QSOs the odd ones are flagged. If 90%+ of the whole log
carries one value the contest is treated as a *fixed
exchange* and lone deviations are flagged too. Highlighted
YELLOW. "Auto-fix" corrects the clear cases (early value
wrong, then the same right value repeated).
You can edit any cell inline, open a full-field editor (double-click the row
number or the Edit button), delete the selected QSO (with confirmation), and
save back out in the same format the log was loaded in (ADIF in → ADIF out,
Cabrillo .log in → Cabrillo out).
Run: python3 log_check.py (needs PyQt5: pip install PyQt5)

log_check — Help

What it checks

log_check runs five integrity checks over a contest log and highlights the
suspect QSOs right in the table:

Rare DXCC — QSOs whose worked entity is on the “most-wanted”
list. In a normal log a stray rare country is almost always a busted
callsign. Highlighted pink .

Exchange bust — a station sends the same exchange all contest, so
when its received-exchange value disagrees across that station’s QSOs
the odd one out is flagged. If 90%+ of the log carries one value the
exchange is treated as fixed and lone deviations are flagged too.
The exchange field is auto-detected (override in the drop-down).
Highlighted yellow .

Zone vs. entity — the logged CQ/ITU zone is checked against the
zone(s) the worked country actually lies in; a mismatch usually means a
busted callsign or a mis-typed zone.

Callsign plausibility — flags callsigns that map to no DXCC/ITU
country (an exotic prefix, almost always a typo) or aren’t a valid
call shape.

Near-dupe / UBN — a callsign worked once that is one letter off a
busier multi-band station — a likely mis-copy of that call.

Local data policy

🔒 Everything runs locally on this computer. Your log is never
uploaded, sent to a server, or stored in the cloud. The lookup tables (DXCC /
ITU / most-wanted) are local data files shipped with the app; nothing about your
log leaves your machine.

Log / ADI in

Open a contest log with Open log…. Two formats are accepted and
the format is auto-detected:

ADIF —
.adi
/
.adif

Cabrillo —
.log
(the
QSO:
lines)

Log / ADI out

Save… writes your corrected log back in the same format it
was loaded in (ADIF in → ADIF out, Cabrillo in → Cabrillo out), as

_checked.adi
/
.log
. Cabrillo saves
preserve the original header, footer and column alignment; only edited

QSO:
lines change.

Save also writes a companion

_changes.txt
containing
the check-results summary, a summary of changes (every QSO
modified field-by-field, removed, or added), and a unified diff of the
original vs the saved log — keep it with your log entry as a record of
exactly what you corrected.
