First 2019 instructor meeting

Here are some of the topics we'll want to discuss at our first instructor meeting prior to the start of the class:

• Have the TAs completed the DDAH forms (i.e., hours allocation, etc.)? If not, we'll have to talk to Ben since only he has access to create these.
• Discuss general course instruction strategies and logistics
  • Live-coding
  • GitHub workflow
• Syllabus
  • Updates to lecture topics?
    • Group presentation currently scheduled for Dec. 5 but classes end on Dec. 4
  • Who will teach what?
• Mark breakdown
  • Changes to mark breakdown: Last year we discussed a mid-project report to be handed in by students. This should improve their final projects and presentations since they'll receive detailed feedback earlier on.
  • Other possible changes?
• Some assignments and lectures need to be updated.
  • Assignments will need to be made more difficult. Last year, the department complained that the grades were too high.
    • Idea: Assignments could contain questions that require student to Google solutions and figure things out. After all, this is an essential skill when learning to program.
