Extra Indentation Before Equation — Is This a Bug?

When I insert a tex equation, there is unexpected extra indentation before the formula. For example:

This renders with extra left indentation, which I did not add.

However, if I add a numbered list item before the text, like this:


Then the indentation disappears, and the equation is aligned normally.
This makes me wonder — is this intended behavior or a rendering bug?
