Habitat Classification – GEE and R Tools

This repository contains the Google Earth Engine (GEE) and R tools developed as part of my MSc dissertation in Geographic Information Science. The tools were designed to generate on-demand habitat extent maps using freely available remote sensing data.

The repository includes the scripts, sample data, and documentation required to reproduce the workflow, from data preparation and habitat classification to the generation of habitat extent outputs.

The tools have the potential to support environmental practitioners and ecologists in Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessment surveys by providing an accessible and reproducible approach to habitat mapping.

Repository Structure

GEE Folder

The GEE folder contains:

  • Three JavaScript scripts used in Google Earth Engine.
  • The data required to run the GEE scripts.
  • A README file providing instructions on how to run the GEE scripts and generate the required outputs.

R Folder

The R folder contains:

  • The R script used for habitat classification.
  • All required input data.
  • A README file explaining how to set up and run the R script.

Please refer to the README file within each folder for detailed instructions on using the respective tools.
