Yes, the API that I was talking about was is the fornite tracker network. I have already done some work with this and will be making an initial commit tonight. @Kris-Kindle

This is close to ready to start collecting data, I believe. as I note in the parseUserData, if you want more data you could continue to parse say the lifetime stats, or the quite extensive stats list (its like 50-60 distinct things).

I think that you are right that we are getting pretty close to being able to go live with this. I was creating something to capture the lifetime data initially, as this is the simplest to capture, but I think that we need to try to capture as much of the data as we can with each requests as we have a relatively limited number of daily requests (43,200 is the theoretical max). I am also working on a relational model to place this data into.

Regarding your scrape of the leaderboards, if all we do is scrape the leaderboards we will run out of data very fast. I will post what I have found later tonight, but there is a way to scrape another api for friends lists of players. Also this could make it easy to do some network analysis with the game data.

That sounds rad. I admit that I didn't spend much time looking or thinking about alternatives to finding player names.

Just to update you on the alternatives that I found for getting players names. I have been following this guide, and have been able to capture the necessary tokens so that we can get access to the player data. I just need to work out how to make the requests, and then we should be able to create a much larger list of players names to send the to API.

I updated some of my code (topPlayers had some bugs). If you have a chance, can you check if getUserData works on xbox for you? it seems to be completely broken for me. When I get a list of player IDs for pc or psn it works fine, but I get an error feeding in xbox names.

I uploaded a csv with some summary stats for the last 10 games for each of the top 300 players. If you want to go down the road of dumping the full json into a mongo file and then parsing out the individual extra bits, I started exploring that (it's at the bottom of education_example.Rmd). I haven't actually started a mongo database yet.

We have 600 accounts to start with. If all we want to do is make a simple shiny dashboard showing how histograms change according to some extra variable I think we can start with this.

Let me know what you were actually thinking about for a presentation so we can start scoping it out.

I think you are right. Now that you have gotten that data set we should be able to start feeling it out with a dashboard.

Hey, I know from your shiny presentation you are a wiz at this stuff, but one of my friends from grad school recently put together a dashboard we could start from. Her concept has people loading in a csv and visualizing from there (we can obviously skip that part).

So a couple of updates. I am working on the data model for the db that I am creating for the player scraper. I am going to host it on one of my raspis for now. Once this is up I will begin testing the scraper with the local datastore, and after that is done I will look into moving it to somewhere that we can both have access to it.

@thomas-keller You may want to build off of what you have for now as it appears that there was some change to the friends list api. I am testing some workarounds, but I don't know how long it could take.
