Step-by-step guide for installing and running Retro Multi Tools on FreeBSD.
- FreeBSD 13.0 or later (x64 or ARM64)
- Root or
sudoaccess
Note: Retro Multi Tools is compiled as a Linux binary. FreeBSD runs it through the built-in Linux binary compatibility layer. Building from source directly on FreeBSD is not supported.
FreeBSD can run Linux binaries natively through its Linuxulator subsystem. Enable it and start the service:
sudo sysrc linux_enable="YES"
sudo service linux startVerify that the Linux compatibility layer is loaded:
kldstat | grep linuxYou should see linux64.ko (or linux.ko) in the output.
Retro Multi Tools requires a Rocky Linux 9 userland and several Linux libraries. Install them from the FreeBSD package repository:
Tip: The version suffixes below (e.g.
67.1_2) reflect the versions available at the time of writing. Ifpkg installcannot find an exact version, drop the version suffix (e.g. uselinux-rl9-icuinstead oflinux-rl9-icu-67.1_2) or runpkg search linux-rl9-icuto find the current version.
