Benchmarks

This directory contains benchmark documentation, generated report locations, and safe test-run snapshots.

Benchmarks compare implementation characteristics only. Faster does not mean more secure. Smaller does not mean more secure. Results vary by CPU, OS, library version, backend build, and parameter set.

Generate Local Reports

pqc-tool benchmark --iterations 5 --output-dir benchmarks/results

The command writes latest.json and latest.md. Those files are ignored by Git because they describe the local machine and current runtime.

Test Run Snapshots

The results/test_runs files are safe report snapshots copied from pytest temporary output. They contain timing, size, environment, status, and skipped backend notes. They do not contain private keys, shared secrets, derived keys, plaintext, or ciphertext bytes.
