Proceedings: http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-1211.

The RuleML 2014 Challenge is one of the highlights at RuleML 2014 Conference which seeks to provide a competition among innovative rule-oriented applications, aimed at both the research and industrial side. The RuleML 2014 Challenge is a forum where new ways of the use of rule-based systems are presented and practical experiences about implementing these systems are reported. In particular, submissions of benchmarks/evaluations, demos, case studies, use cases, experience reports, best practice solutions (e.g. design patterns, reference architectures, models), rule-based implementations/tools/applications, demonstrations of engineering methods, implementations of rule standards (e.g. RuleML, W3C RIF, SBVR, PRR, rule-based Event Processing languages, BPMN+rules, BPEL+rules, etc), rules + industrial standards (e.g. XBRL, MISMO, Accord, etc), and industrial problem statements are particularly encouraged. A selection of the best systems will be invited for demonstration to PAIS'14.

Key Themes

Key themes of the RuleML 2014 Challenge include, but are not limited to the following:

Demos related to the RuleML 2014 Track Topics

Extensions and implementations of rule-related standards, e.g. W3C RIF, RuleML, SBVR, BPMN, BPEL, etc.

Rule-based Event Processing and Stream Reasoning

Editing environments and IDEs for Web rules

Benchmarks and comparison results for rule engines

Distributed rule bases and rule services

Reports on industrial experience about rule systems

Real cases and practical experiences

RuleML 2014 Rulebase Competition

RuleML Inc announces a US$1000 Award for the best RuleML Rulebase of 2014. This year's rulebases are solicited in Deliberation RuleML 1.01 (overview). Submitted rulebases must contain at least 20 (Assert/Query) rules in RuleML 1.01/XML, and can be about any domain of knowledge (example). They may be translated from other languages (which must be mentioned in submissions) but need to be cleared for possible publication on the RuleML website in the source language as well as in RuleML 1.01/XML

Evaluation criteria for rulebase submissions in Deliberation RuleML 1.01:

Generally, the criteria of the main RuleML 2014 Challenge apply.

Each rulebase must syntactically validate w.r.t. a Deliberation RuleML 1.01 schema for the most specific sublanguage (cf. MYNG 1.01) covering it (in Relax NG or XSD).

The semantics of rulebases should be demonstrated through test queries or translation to the input format of a rule engine.

Their usefulness, efficiency, readability, and documentation should be shown in appropriate ways.

Submission

The length of the submissions may vary between 2-15 pages in PDF format following the LNCS format. Shorter submissions (but not shorter than 2 pages) should ensure that they reference online materials where reviewers can find more details about the system to be demonstrated. Irrespective of the length of the submission (but not exceeding 15 pages) it is recommended that the following points are addressed in the submissions:

clearly explain the objectives, outcomes, benefits as you are going beyond the state of the art in technology, the application domain, etc.

demonstrate a good level of effectiveness in managing/processing rule sets of increasing complexity according to (statistical/analytical/benchmarking) evaluations

demonstrate the results with a concrete example balancing conciseness and completeness

preferably (but not necessarily) embed the tool in a web-based or distributed environment

present end-user interactions, providing an adequate and usable interface that favours a concrete usage of the application

mention the availability of the software and data, data interchange, and possible tool extensions

provide a web-link to the project site, online demonstration, or download site

Easychair submission Web site: Easychair submission website.

Proceedings and Post-proceedings

Rule Challenge 2014 proceedings will be published as CEUR Proceedings and indexed by SCOPUS, and a selection of the best systems will be invited for demonstration at PAIS 2014 (part of ECAI 2014). Moreover, a complimentary 1-year online membership is offered by the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) to RuleML Symposium participants who are new to AAAI.
