RIM 1.0 vs. 2.0 and Plans

RIM 1.0 was created by @kbartelt as part of her thesis:
Bartelt. 2021. Valley Bottom Inundation Patterns in Beaver-Modified Streams: A Potential Proxy for Hydrologic Inefficiency. MS Thesis. Utah State University. Logan, UT.

It is a series of ArcPY, Python and R scripts that assist in the mapping and analysis of inundation mapping projects and managing the housekeeping in a Riverscapes Project. This repository will be maintained for both that code-base, and as the RIM website as well as issue tracking for user support.

RIM 2.0 is under development as a feature inside of QRiS, which is being led by @nick4rivers and @philipbaileynar and @joewheaton. RIM projects will get simplified into an assessment feature (mapping of inundation maps) inside a QRiS project (see: Riverscapes/QRiS#48). The other supporting and helpful components as part of RIM are turning into core functions of QRiS. Namely:

• Ability to import and clip contextual layers from other projects → Project Context feature
• Ability to load high-resolution basemaps into project as basis of individual assessments or data collection events → Basemap Imagery feature
• Ability to map dam crests → Dam/Jam Mapper
• Ability to map Centerlines and Thalwegs → Centerline / Thalweg Mapper, which might include some tools for deriving centerlines from polygons (e.g. inundation polygons, valley bottom polygons, channel polygons).

The documentation website will be expanded to include references to this RIM 2.0 functionality.
