Plugin not compatibly with Elasticsearch 1.2.1

The plugin is not compatible with the latest version of Elasticsearch.
Elasticsearch cloud providers like searchly have upgraded to 1.2.1 causing our application to break. The following issues have been identified (there might be more)

1. The default sorting has changed to ascending
2. Mapping has been made more strict and requires a properties root element (not entirely sure about this)
