increase default timeouts / make configurable?

Earlier today I was unable to log in because it timed out before login completed. The timeouts need to at least be longer, and perhaps configurable. Maybe an "advanced" setting? Trying to avoid that if possible.

default timeout on login is now 20 seconds, which resolves the immediate issue, but it should still be configurable
