I suspect Acer has retired this tool due to its own reliance on WinRing0. I only found out about its retirement yesterday when I opened the Acer forum 😅

Yes I can see WinRing0 in their /runtime folder.

Could you please elaborate again how exactly you figured out the ports you now have ?
From another repository or by yourself ?

Hey there! The ports used to read from/write to the EC itself are just part of someone else's code (most of the contents of the ECLibrary directory). What I did was monitor the contents of the EC registers using https://github.com/hirschmann/nbfc/wiki/EC-probing-tool while modifying the fan speed manually in PredatorSense, to figure out which EC registers corresponded to each fan's speeds - essentially what's documented in my configuration guide.

I see.
I did take a look into quite a few binaries already and believe there are some missing.
WinRing0 is included but nowhere used or loaded as far as I can tell at the moment.

I've found some registry stuff and SQLite tables but no driver calls so far.
Without that we'll not be able to find how it works.
Could you re-check if there are other binaries ?

You can do some kind of "raw" search by searching for "winring" (case insensitive) in Notepad++ wherever you think the correct binaries are.
Ignore the WinRing files itself (lib, dll, sys) and see if there are any other hits.

I looked into various config/binary files (mostly present in that .zip file) and was unable to find any that actually included the string "winring", though the same applies to my own ECLibrary.dll file, even though I know I load WinRing (not sure what compilation actually does to the strings). I have now added the GUI app PredatorSense to the Google Drive, though I would suspect the code isn't in there. If I had to guess, it would be one of the binaries in the PredatorSense Service .zip file - maybe SdkWrapper.dll

I just had a little more time on hand and searched for the exported functions of WinRing0 like "ReadIoPort" and got some matches in CoreTemp.dll.
Not sure why WinRing0 was not found as it's also clearly visible in code... weird.

Apparently there are only some CPU temperature reads with WinRing0.
I was not able to find anything else. For me it seems like the EC stuff must be somewhere else.

Have you got the software installed + it works and runs properly ?
