Invite Canadian fisheries folks! @ateucher and @boshek have taught advanced R pkg dev to Federal Dept of Fisheries and Oceans. They do stock assessment reports etc. So many things in common. Andy found a repo where Megsie Siple contributed.

Thoughts on format

Welcome & Intro
Julie give very short intro on Fisheries Mentors and Champions, then 3 mins on "forking as a worldview" to let audience know this is a theme and that they can fork what they hear today. I had been thinking forking would go after speakers, but before is better to influence the context of their listening (HT Malin Sandström for suggesting putting it at start). Not about centering Openscapes, it's about enabling others to fork.

Discussion w Eli & Jon. Eli thinks could be better with speakers beyond fisheries. Theme is books and forking (Quarto and Jupyter books) for documentation & community, like the eScience template now being used by Ian Carroll, Eli Holmes.

A template developed by one group to solve their own problem ... anyone can use the template.

Story: Sophie B & Sam Schiano - improving accessbility of pdfs and incorporating that into Quarto!! noted in posit::glimpse() newsletter (but not specifically credited Sophie & Sam). Have Carlos come say what their contrib was to Quarto itself. Have a NASA mentor talke about their Cookbook Quarto needs.

Hi @sbreitbart! Would a community call in week of May 19 or June 1 work for you and @Schiano-NOAA?

And 👋🏼 Sam! I floated this community call idea with Sophie yesterday; she can tell you a bit more. It's in early stages, but once we have a date set and other speakers committed we'll work with everyone to establish a cohesive theme and we always have a 1-hr speakers mtg in the week before a community call for rough dry runs and developing a mutual understanding and yes vibes, among the group.
We're so excited to have a place where you two can share your story.

Thanks for looping me in! This sounds awesome and a great thing to participate in. As Sophie mentioned, I am happy to share our story with people 😄 I think the week of June 1st would be preferable as we will be holding out last stock assessment workflow workshop the week of May 19th.

Excited about this and so grateful to be involved. Thank you for the invitation!
Agree with Sam that the week of May 19th would be tough. I also have conflicts from 10-11am PT every day the week of June 1 except for that Friday (June 5). The next week looks better (Tues-Thurs work), as does the week after that (Tues-Fri).
