Description

Adds a low-res version of a global configuration that helps with resources needed for regression tests.

Solution

Use as low-res a global domain as possible with the HFIP_2025 config so testing doesn't use as many developer and computational resources.

Requirements**

• End-to-end configuration runs successfully for the global configuration (whatever is supported for HFIP 2025 at the time this ticket is worked; at the time of writing, the workflow stops with the forecast)

Acceptance Criteria (Definition of Done)

• New configuration runs on Jet, Ursa, and Hera.
• New grid files are staged on all three platforms.

A few notes for when I return to this endeavor...

I downloaded the 480 km grid files from https://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/projects/mpas/site/access_code/meshes.html to test on Hera with the global HFIP 2025 configuration.

I am now held up with mpas_init in the workflow needing the x1.2562.ugwp_oro_data.nc file. I will need to learn how to create this file with mpas_init in the static file generation mode. Clark has great notes on this here.
