[FEATURE]: FIMS Steering Committee yearly blog post

@Schiano-NOAA suggested having the FIMS Steering Committee write a yearly blog post about development, priorities, etc. which would be great in terms of transparency and communication!

@kellijohnson-NOAA is this something that you think that they could be on board with?

Funny you mention this because @Melissa-Karp mentioned setting annual priorities the other day and trying to communicate them. I think it would be great if we could do that and then try to communicate it through various lenses, especially if it leads to others helping me communicate it. Maybe we can kick things off with @Bai-Li-NOAA writing one about testing priorities for the remainder of this year because there have been quite a few lessons learned within FIMS so far.

@kellijohnson-NOAA Amazing! Perfect timing 😄. @Bai-Li-NOAA feel free to submit a PR with your blog post when you write it. There is a blog post template qmd file in the blog folder. I think that the category should be "other" and then you can decide a FIMS steering committee subcategory tag that makes sense. Lmk if you have any other questions. Also, my general recommendation is to add any fun images or non-text that you can because people are more likely to engage in material that is not all text!

@kellijohnson-NOAA We have a FIMS strategic plan document that includes the FY2026+ plan, in case you need previous plans for a new blog.

For testing priorities, should this be an annual update, or more ad hoc (only when we have enough lessons learned)? If it’s annual, I’ll structure it to make future updates easier. We previously had a testing plan in the FIMS repo, so I won’t be starting from scratch. After the CIE review could be a good time to write a blog.

Thanks @Bai-Li-NOAA for the reminder of that document, that is a great idea! Regarding a blog post about testing, I was thinking that it would be a one-off thing but I will leave it up to you.

I think blog posts are a great idea! One on testing could be interesting, but could also see having blog posts around future major releases, and then perhaps an annual big one looking at "FIMS in review" that discusses key development and stats around FIMS from the last year (e.g., number of contributors, assessments to explore or use FIMS, trainings given, etc), and what the community can expect/anticipate from FIMS for the coming year.
