yipsy is a little puppy girl with soft ears and a happy heart. she wags her tail when the sun comes up. yipsy loves treats and head pats and long naps in warm sunbeams. good girl yipsy. the little puppy runs in the grass and sniffs the flowers. she chases her tail and falls over and gets right back up. yipsy borks softly at the wind. the wind does not bork back. she is a good girl anyway.
yipsy wants a treat. yipsy always wants a treat. the puppy sits pretty and tilts her head and does her best eyes. it works every time. she gets the treat and does a happy little spin. her tail wags so fast it is just a blur. good girl.
the puppy naps on the big soft blanket. she dreams of snacks and belly rubs and endless fields of grass. her paws twitch while she dreams. she is chasing a ball in the dream. she catches it every time in the dream. when she wakes up she yawns and stretches her little paws and looks for breakfast.
yipsy loves the park. at the park there are sticks and smells and other puppies. she sniffs everything twice. she finds the best stick and carries it around like a treasure. the stick is bigger than she is. she does not care. it is her stick now.
when it rains yipsy watches the drops race down the window. she paws at the glass and tilts her head. rain is just sky water she thinks. after the rain there are puddles and puddles are for splashing. she splashes in every single puddle and gets mud on her paws and her ears and somehow her tail. bath time after that. she pretends to hate the bath but the warm water is actually kind of nice.
yipsy has the zoomies. she runs in big circles around the room. she runs over the couch and under the table and around the chair. nobody knows why the zoomies happen. not even yipsy knows. the zoomies simply arrive and must be obeyed. after the zoomies she flops down and pants and looks very pleased with herself.
the little puppy girl wears a pink bow on her collar. she thinks it makes her look pretty. she is right. everyone at the park says what a pretty puppy and her tail goes wild. she does a little spin to show off the bow. pats follow. life is good.
yipsy learns a new trick. the trick is shake. she gives her paw and gets a treat. she gives her other paw and gets another treat. she tries giving both paws and falls on her face. she gets a treat anyway for trying. good effort little one.
at night yipsy curls up in her soft bed. she brings her favorite toy with her. the toy is a small stuffed bunny with one ear. she guards the bunny with her life. she yawns a tiny yawn and tucks her nose under her tail and drifts off to sleep. sweet dreams little puppy. tomorrow there will be more treats and more pats and more sunbeams to nap in.
the morning sun finds yipsy already awake. she waits by the bed with her tail thumping the floor. it is breakfast time and she knows it. she does the breakfast dance which is mostly hopping and spinning. breakfast is served and gone in about four seconds. she licks the bowl until it shines. then she licks it again just to be sure.
yipsy meets a butterfly in the garden. she has never seen one before. she pounces and misses. she pounces again and misses again. the butterfly does not seem worried. they play like this for a while until the butterfly drifts over the fence. yipsy borks a tiny goodbye bork and goes to find a stick instead.
snow falls and yipsy does not understand it at all. the ground is cold and white and it was not like this yesterday. she bites the snow. the snow is now water. this is confusing and wonderful. she does zoomies through the snow and leaves little paw prints everywhere. her nose gets cold and she sneezes the tiniest sneeze.
the puppy sits by the fire with her people. she gets slow gentle pats behind her ears. her eyes get heavy. her tail gives one last sleepy wag. she is warm and safe and loved and full of treats. that is everything a little puppy girl could ever want. good night yipsy. good girl.
yipsy finds a sock. the sock is now hers. finders keepers is the law of puppies. she parades around the house with the sock held high. catch me if you can she thinks. nobody can catch her. she is too fast and too small and too clever. eventually she trades the sock for a treat. a fair deal she thinks.
the ball is red and it bounces and it is the best thing ever made. yipsy chases the ball down the hall and brings it back. again she says with her eyes. again and again and again. her people throw the ball until their arm is tired. yipsy is never tired of the ball. the ball is life. the ball is everything.
yipsy tries to howl like the big dogs. what comes out is a tiny awoo. she is very proud of it. the big dogs pretend not to be charmed but they are. she awoos at the moon and the moon says nothing but she is pretty sure it heard her. one day her awoo will be mighty. today it is small and squeaky and perfect.
belly rubs are the finest thing in this world. yipsy flops over and shows her belly to anyone with hands. her leg kicks all on its own when the rubs are good. the leg knows things. when the rubs stop she paws at the air until they start again. she could do this all day and honestly she has.
yipsy hears the treat jar open from three rooms away. she appears instantly. nobody saw her move. she was asleep a second ago and now she is sitting pretty in the kitchen with her tail sweeping the floor. the treat jar is the most important sound in the world. she knows it better than her own name.
the puppy digs a hole in the garden. the hole is very important. she puts her bunny in the hole and then takes the bunny out of the hole. she looks at the hole. the hole is good. she is a small architect of dirt and she is proud of her work. later she forgets where the hole is and digs a new one.
yipsy watches the birds from the window. her tail wags slow and thoughtful. the birds hop around the grass like little wind up toys. she makes a soft chattering sound at them. the birds do not care. one day she will say hello to a bird up close. today she just watches and wags and dreams about it.
a leaf falls from the tree and yipsy loses her mind. the leaf must be caught. she leaps and snaps and misses and the leaf drifts sideways like it is teasing her. more leaves fall. it is autumn and the sky is raining toys. she chases leaves until she is dizzy and then flops in the pile and rolls around.
yipsy tries to catch her own tail. the tail stays just out of reach which is very suspicious. she turns in circles faster and faster. the room spins. she sits down hard and blinks. the tail wags behind her looking innocent. she will get it one day. the tail cannot run forever.
bath time again. yipsy hides under the table but her tail sticks out and gives her away. the tail is a traitor. into the warm water she goes with dramatic little grumbles. then the shampoo scrubs feel nice and she forgets to be upset. after the bath she does wet zoomies through the whole house and shakes water on everything and everyone. this is the law.
the puppy girl learns the word walk. now the word cannot be said out loud in the house. her people spell it out instead but she is learning to spell too. w is for wagging. a is for also wagging. she waits by the leash and does tiny hops. the walk is the best part of the day. every smell on the street is news and she reads all of it.
yipsy meets a big dog at the park. the big dog is ten times her size. yipsy borks her tiniest bork and does a play bow. the big dog play bows back and shakes the whole ground. they run in circles together until both are panting. size does not matter in the game of chase. speed and heart matter and yipsy has plenty of both.
a thunderstorm rolls in at night and yipsy is not brave about it. she squeezes under the blanket and presses against warm legs. gentle pats find her ears. the thunder rumbles far away and slowly she stops shaking. she falls asleep to the sound of rain on the roof and a heartbeat that is not her own. safe little puppy.
yipsy discovers the mirror. there is another puppy in the house. she borks at the puppy and the puppy borks back at the exact same time. she play bows and the other puppy play bows. rude and also impressive. she checks behind the mirror and finds nothing. this mystery will never be solved. she decides the mirror puppy is a friend.
her people come home from work and yipsy greets them like they have been gone for a hundred years. she spins and wiggles and brings them the bunny and then a sock and then the bunny again. gifts for the returning heroes. the whole day of waiting melts away. this moment is her favorite moment and it happens every single day.
yipsy steals a piece of cheese right off the low table. she knows it was wrong. the cheese was worth it. she does her sorry eyes afterward and gets forgiven because she is small and fluffy and the eyes are very good. the cheese remains the greatest heist of her young life. she thinks about it often.
winter evening and the house is quiet. yipsy is a warm bread shaped loaf on the couch. her nose is tucked under her paw. someone puts a blanket over her and she sighs the deep happy sigh of a puppy with nothing to worry about. the fire crackles. the snow falls outside. every good thing is here in this room.
yipsy is a good girl. she is a very good girl. everyone says so and everyone is right. she wags her tail in her sleep because even her dreams are happy. little puppy girl with the pink bow and the mighty tiny awoo. the world is big and soft and full of treats and she loves all of it.
