External storage failed to be browsed in Nextcloud after $ occ config:app:set files_excludedirs exclude --value '[".*"]'

Synopsis:

Folders from external storage cannot be open with exclude set to [".*"] or ["/.*"] or ["*/.*"].

Procedures performed:

files_excludedirs was chown'ed and chmod'ed
app installed and enabled

$ php7 /config/www/nextcloud/occ config:app:set files_excludedirs exclude --value '[".*"]'
Config value exclude for app files_excludedirs set to [".*"]

Expected result:

No folder with the name started with "." shows up.

Actual result:

All external storages cannot be open in Nextcloud
