Outside of Dewclaw, all current existent “extra thumbs,” are expensive and controlled by impractical means. This project improves current concepts by creating a relatively inexpensive but functional extra thumb prosthetic that the user can control naturally via sensors on the users hand. This thumb provides a gateway into experimentation with both different sensing types and applications as well as noninvasive human augmentation and prosthetics. This project is currently ongoing and current objectives are to add feedback to the user and experiment with different methods of controls. The current code can be found on my GitHub repo.</p><div class="d-flex"><img class="rounded-circle flex-shrink-0 me-3 fit-cover" width="50" height="50" src="https://cdn.bootstrapstudio.io/placeholders/1400x800.png"><div><p class="fw-bold mb-0">Independent Research</p><p class="text-muted mb-0">2022-2023</p></div></div></div></div></div><div class="col"><div class="card"><img class="card-img-top w-100 d-block fit-cover" style="height: 200px;" src="assets/img/fullsize/NewWorlds.jpg"><div class="card-body p-4"><p class="text-primary card-text mb-0">Mechanical Engineering</p><h4 class="card-title">New Worlds: Virtual Reality</h4><p class="card-text">New Worlds is a first-generation prototype virtual reality interface that aims to allow for a more immersive and natural walking and running experience. The physical system consists of two mobile foot puck mounted on rails that move beneath the user's feet as they walk or jog. The motion of this foot puck relies on information gathered by onboard cameras and force sensors. The system control program turns that data into commands for the motor to provide a natural walking experience. All of this is supervised by a safety subsystem, which will shut down the system in the event of a failure or problem to protect the user. My work focused on the physical foot puck surface design, ensuring it was both lightweight enough to achieve the required accelerations and strong enough to handle the force of a full jumping impact. </p><div class="d-flex"><img class="rounded-circle flex-shrink-0 me-3 fit-cover" width="50" height="50" src="https://cdn.bootstrapstudio.io/placeholders/1400x800.png"><div><p class="fw-bold mb-0">Senior Project</p><p class="text-muted mb-0">2021-2022</p></div></div></div></div></div><div class="col"><div class="card"><img class="card-img-top w-100 d-block fit-cover" style="height: 200px;" src="assets/img/fullsize/muddauber.jpg"><div class="card-body p-4"><p class="text-primary card-text mb-0">Mechanical Engineering</p><h4 class="card-title">Mud Dauber: Printing Habitable Structures on Mars</h4><p class="card-text">Mud Dauber is a system for printing structures on mars using in-situ material. This project has been passed down through multiple classes of engineers since its inception in 2019. While, I have been involved in the project since 2019, it became my full time work for the summer of 2021. During this summer, I worked along side my advisor and a team of three other engineering students to improve energy efficiency and print quality from the previous itteration. My main contributions to the project were designing a system that dosed out the correct amount of materials, coming up with methods to test different extruder designs, and working alongside the other engineers to work on printhead control code.</p><div class="d-flex"><img class="rounded-circle flex-shrink-0 me-3 fit-cover" width="50" height="50" src="https://cdn.bootstrapstudio.io/placeholders/1400x800.png"><div><p class="fw-bold mb-0">Undergraduate Research</p><p class="text-muted mb-0">2019-2023</p></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><div class="container text-white bg-primary border rounded border-0 p-4 p-lg-5 py-4 py-xl-5"><div class="row mb-5"><div class="col-md-10 col-xl-11 text-center mx-auto"><h2 class="text-white"><strong><span style="color: rgb(33, 37, 41); background-color: rgb(248, 249, 250);">More than can be reasonably featured</span></strong></h2><p>I do a lot, so not everything could be featured.
