Redraw ¤ and ∑, the weakest of the constructed glyphs #6

Description

@zackkatz

Both were mapped to empty outlines upstream and are now drawn, so they are no longer blank. They are also the two that most obviously look constructed rather than designed.

  • ¤ U+00A4 currency sign — a ring with four ticks springing from its corners. The ticks read as spiky and do not sit comfortably against the ring at the heavier weights.
  • U+2211 n-ary summation — built from two bars and two diagonal arms. The joins close correctly now, but the result is more angular than a drawn sigma would be.

Neither appears in gravitykit.com content at all, so this is quality rather than function, and low priority.

They are generated in tools/build-symbols.py and tools/build-math.py. Anyone redrawing them should keep the per-face measurement approach the other constructions use, so one shape still serves all seven weights.
