CI tests in debug instead of release mode?

One potential issue is that we run of CI tests in release mode. This makes them a bit faster, but also less critical. Should we change that?

I think @suvarchal has been working on a matrix for different builds, so we should be able to run tests with different builds. We should be testing with strict options (many checks, especially bounds checks) but also with high optimization to catch possible problems with that. Also, overtime we should increase the „strictness“ of the compiler, to e.g. make sure we do imports always with „only“ keyword.

One idea that would be quick to include would be a manual dispatch trigger, so you can potentially trigger an on-demand CI job with exactly the strictness you need.
