So, what you are looking for? This is not a standalone solution, but the servers to host the office suite web platform. If you need specifically this one, just install either docker or use linux deb/rpm or build from sources.

I'm looking for a docker free howto to build from sources, as initially reported. Docker as a prerequisite is against unix philosophy and kiss principle.

Hi, we currently do not support building without docker and its not planned yet. For the desktop editors someone created a PR to build with Podman: Euro-Office/DesktopEditors#48. Maybe this will help you.

Docker is a great tool if and only if the knowledge for how to do the simple build steps isn't lost along the way.

When all of the institutional knowledge has been lost and all you have is "works in my Docker image"... well, I guess at least you can ship a Docker image to some customers... but that's a huge problem for mainstream adoption.

Docker is very complicated and requires lots of network engineering, orchestration layers and dashboards, "DevOps" (whatever that even means these days), etc. The Dockerfiles are typically are not open source and although one can inspect the tarball it's typically not possible to determine their providence (which of the dozens of layers of Dockerfiles were used to create whichever image).

Maybe this is so incredibly complicated that even slow-moving distros like Debian and Ubuntu just change too frequently for any compatible versions of software to be expected to be available at the same time, but if so... that's a very fragile system with very fragile dependencies.

Hmm... and this doesn't even use standard Dockerfiles. It has some sort of hcl / bake system that orchestrates bunches of them across Alpine, Fedora, and Ubuntu:

I don't need desktop editors for my nextcloud installation. I need this document server. My server is completly docker free, so it would be very nice, if you can overthink your opinion. linux is freedom of choice and a good software allows people to decide if they want to use docker or not. Why do you want to force docker?

I try my best to get this software running under gentoo linux. but error messages like "Pkg: Error reading from file." are so useless. which file? how to enable debug to get usefull error messages? NODE_ENV=development-linux is set.
