As @hoodriverheather reported in a comment to an issue, some collections lack event IDs, which makes reporting on them difficult.
There should be an option to take an arbitrary named DICOM field, such as PatientID and use it as a replacement for event IDs where possible.
This will affect file discovery, finding management, database schema, and reporting components—and possibly others.
