Unsuccessful Installation due to old version artifacts remaining

Describe the issue

I got a pop-up saying a newer version of SOLIDWORKS has already been installed, and a subsequent unsuccessful VBA 7.1 installation.

Anything else?

I've installed SOLIDWORKS with a proper licence before (it's since expired) and have already uninstalled it and its related files. Are there some other files from the previous installation that I've failed to delete? How do I fix this? Attached are the error pop-ups

You must have not truly deleted everything,

Solidworks is a pest, cuz it deeply integrates itself in the registry, and random folders everywhere

Check out the uninstall guide to check you removed everything

Please make a backup of your registry as corrupting the registry can brick your windows install

If you do NOT want to do this, then backup your files and folders and reformat and reinstall Windows as this cleans the registry completly

Solidworks must have detected a rogue file or registry value still present, thats why you are getting this error

VB install most likely failed from that as well

if i have already made a system restore point before this, do i still need to backup my registry?
also, since i've already added sw2021_network_serials_licensing to my registry, wont backing it up now include it? is that still ok?

Its best to backup the registry and export it as a file, you can follow this simple guide

Ofcourse do a restore point before doing anything in the Delete guide!

The backup idea is in case you mess up and delete something related to windows, you can just re-import the backed-up version

The backup isnt for removing solidworks, but rather a safety net in case something goes wrong, and yes the backup will still have solidworks in it

Just backup your registry and put it on a USB and then follow the deletion guide, if all goes well - a restart should open windows and the install should be fine
