tl;dr definitely not a CDL issue. Potentially a Python or Windows issue? probably not a DNS error. Those are manifested differently in CDL. I know absolutely nothing about Python so I found this SO thread as an example. and for example this works for me. but this just seems to hang infinitly. meanwhile, the same URL works in a browser or if I try to download the file in PowerShell on the same machine. and it fails in Python on multiple (Windows) machines, with different Internet providers and even different architectures (amd64 and arm64.) I also tried a few different Python flavors, i.e. one from Microsoft Store and the "embeddable package" from the Python website. so, when you tried, and it worked for you—was it on Windows or Linux? It seems like a Python on Windows problem to me now. And I don't have a Linux box to try. |

It's a Windows error. I use PopOS. I tried with Windows 10 and it does look like a low level networking problem. It hangs and eventually fails doing the request with * Host www.net-a-porter.com:443 was resolved.

not sure if it's a bug report or (very low pri) feature request, so let's try discussions first :)
I happen to scrape a forum thread which, for some reason, has a reference to this image. (Surprisingly SFW.)
I see that CDL genuinely tries to download this file. I like this behavior in principle, even though I have no particular interest in this very file.
but how come it fails repeatedly? I have no problem reaching this file with a browser or downloading it with PowerShell, for example. So, it doesn't look like there's any sort of protection, like CloudFlare or DDoS-Guard.
so, why exactly does CDL fail? Can it be that we're missing on some other, more valuable downloads because of similar failures?
