Feature Request: Catalog file vs Sidecar files

Consider a user option to create a single repository to track changes, edits, and other data, instead of writing these to sidecar files that clutter directories. This also centralizes and simplifies backups.

Please consider this as an OPTION in addition to the existing implementation, so that those who prefer sidecar files can keep using them, but those who prefer the Lightroom-style catalog system can use that instead. When I view my image library, I only want to see my images. I don't want to see anything else. I would also prefer a single large file to contain edits vs many small ones.
