Dear all,
I might need your support for my use case please: I want to use a self-hosted search engine (SearXNG) on my devices (iPhone, iPad with iOS26). The search engine is reachable from the internet (reverse proxy on my home server), but I do not want everyone to use it. So I put a basic auth in the reverse proxy. But apparently, CSE cannot manage user credentials for basic auth in a standard way https://username:password@url.com ... At least I get prompted for username / password every time...
So questions:
- Is there a way to make basic auth work?
- If above is not feasible, a parameter included in the URL would do "pseudo" security. I would need to evaluate on the proxy end (apache). Anyone ca npoint me towards instructions on how to do this?
- Any other ways (IP changes frequently when I am with my mobile not at home, MAC Address will not work, other unique device identifiers I could not find, but may have overlooked something). It would need to be evaluated on the proxy end (Apache / NGINX) though...
Many thanks in advance for your support!
