oops playlists shouldn't dedupe
The way it is implemented at the moment, it only jumps to it when the song is in the currently viewed list. It was made in the alpha, back before there was any other view in the player. I'll revamp it!
I like the idea of a configurable default tab

This exists already actually, though funny enough when I made the toggle more global, I removed the toggle in the artist page and put it in settings, I should probably put it back, that's on me. Currently, it's in Settings > Library > Artist Parsing. Astra Grouping is the toggle you'd want. (bad name, I know lol, I'll find a better name for it) If it still doesn't work, Astra's parser may not recognize the way your music is tagged, and if so, let me know.
At the moment, Astra follows the official API shape, but I'm personally not opposed to customization for sake of consistency. I'll look into it!

I agree! I've been planning on redoing that section, but I prioritized functionality first
It is intentional, but I need to work on improving it, right now its very bare default behavior, with a few exceptions. I personally like being able to select text, but it does need improvement.
um... yeah none of that is intentional... will fix!
I will have to look into that, can't make any promises at the moment. It might be an opt-in experimental feature for a bit to make sure nothing breaks, if I do end up implementing.

i didnt look through the settings after the update to 1.6, but it was set to astra grouping for me by default. i tried toggling it off and the artist list was the same as before, and i tried toggling it back on and rebooting astra. heres what it looked like for me still and here's how my metadata is formatted on foobar for that song
sorry i should have added better, fuller screen shots and explained better. i did notice the new singles setting on the albums tab and i like that option a lot and have it toggled it on! but i meant it would be nice to get a setting to have singles show up as albums for artists on the artists page, so it would be nice to have an option to have the two fat joe singles that are by him (all the way up and lean back) show up as albums, the other 4 songs show up under the featured in. thanks so much for taking time to read and considering my comments/suggestions! im excited to watch the progress of the app :) |

correct, for all songs with multiple artists or album artists, both the artist/album artist fields would have every artist separated with a semicolon for an example, here is what the album artist looks like on a game sound track album

so ive mostly used foobar2000 for the past couple years and recently messed around with astra and would love to switch to it, but there are few things preventing me from swapping to my main music software. i do want to start off by saying its a great program though and i love a lot about it! but i just wanted to provide some feedback and point out somethings i noticed while using it!
the recent addition of playlist importing is very appreciated! one thing i did notice with it though is if you import a playlist with duplicate songs, it seems to only import one instance of the song (3477 songs imported but only 3434 tracks)
the jump to current playing song seems to not work for me, unless i am failing to understand how it works. i assumed it would move the interface to the current album/playlist and highlight the song that is playing
for the library section, it would be nice to be able to choose a 'home' tab, like i am rarely going to want to go to the tracks tab (i have 50k+ songs and it takes forever to load that and lags the program) but clicking library on a new instance always opens to tracks, so it would be nice to have it always take me to the artists section instead
for the artist tab of the library it would be nice to be nice to have a option to display them in a grid, i have a lot of artist and dont want to scroll that much.
also for the artist section, it would be nice to have an option to consolidate artists with multiple appearances and put everything under one artist. i do like the 'albums/featured in' toggle on artist pages, it really cleans it up and removes features cluttering the albums (only 3/10 of them are the artist album for me in foobar).
this is mostly for my lastfm scrobbles, it would be nice if could edit the format the artist info either uploads in or is displayed as. a lot of my songs with multiple artists have the metadata for the album artist field organized like 'artist1; artist2' and in foobar they show and upload as 'artist1, artist2' and so i have thousands of scrobbles as 'artist1, artist2' but astra will upload songs as 'artist1 & artist2,' so it messes with my tracking. astra also displays both 'artist1 / artist2' and 'artist1 & artist2' depending on where the info is being displayed, not a big deal but it would be nice to have them all consistently matching
on the artist page, it would be nice to change how the artist albums are sorted, as is it displays albums by alphabetical title, i personally much prefer having the albums sorted by release date. it also doesn't display singles, which i would personally like a toggle for on that page too, since if an artist only has singles/features it displays nothing.
it would be nice to be able to left click and drag to scroll around on the UI. like, on the albums section, it seems the only way i can scroll left and right is using middle mouse click. also scrolling down on this area does scroll the albums to the right, but also scrolls the page down as well
for playlists, it would be nice to consolidate all the playlist options (new playlist, rename, change cover) all under like a toggle button (mock up image) because in playlists the search bar and jump button are both gone, and in foobar i do use search to jump down a specific song and i also use a hotkey for jump to current song and so having both of those available would be nice. i also personally dont think people will be using a lot of the playlist options buttons all the time, like i wont be changing the name or cover for a playlist that often, so its kind of wasted space. i do think reordering is a different case though
it's possible to drag select a lot of elements in the UI, not sure if thats intended. but, clicking around on buttons keeps things selected, which seems like it should cause everything to deselect (i have to click in a blank spot to deselect)
for me, im able to open astra (via start) and it will open an instance, and clicking astra again on start will open a second instance. however, clicking astra a third time will not open a third instance, but will bring the second instance to the front. i dont know if two instances is intended, but it would be nice for it to be one instance, and clicking it again brings that instance to the front.
it would also be nice to have an option to have astra remember your position when closing and opening. for my foobar i can close it, reboot my computer, reopen foobar and itll be on the exact same page and position that i left it (like if i was scrolled half way down a playlist, it would be open to halfway down that playlist). i can also hit play and it will play the last playing song from the previous session. the current home page kind of does this by letting you jump back into recently played things, but it doesnt let me resume playback just by hitting play or remember where i left on in a particular playlist.
it would also be nice to change the keybinds as well. i use f6, f7, and f8 for previous, play/pause, and next, and foobar also gives me the option to have it globally recognize those keys as keybinds for the program, so even if im not tabbed in to foobar, hitting those buttons still controls the program.
but yea, those were some things i think could be improvements! overall its still a phenomenal player and i love a lot about it :)
