Symptoms
There are two issues in Wayland-enabled Elden Ring, I love how HDR looks in native Wayland and that's why I use it in most HDR-enabled games. I might have to resort to XWayland for now or even forever given how Wayland itself handles things.
- The game doesn't close properly when quitting, I have to manually kill it in Steam:
- This has been present since Wine-Wayland became a thing in EM and later in GE,
- still happens in latest EM and GE,
- the game exe and all related Wine processes are running after quitting, I have to go into steam and stop it manually, screenshot below.
- The in-game cursor stays visible the whole time
- It does sometimes appear in the main menu and map menu when using XWayland but it hides properly after going back and doesn't interfere with gameplay whatsoever,
- in Wine-Wayland it stays visible 100% of the time,
- I can sometimes make it disappear briefly by switching virtual desktops or just moving the system cursor away and focusing back on the game window but most of the time it comes back when opening menus,
- no window rules worked to counter this issue,
- happens regardless of Steam Input status,
- happens regardless of display mode (fullscreen/borderless),
- I'm aware this might be an inherent Wayland, Wine-Wayland or kwin_wayland issue and not Proton,
- below is a screenshot of what I'm experiencing.
Reproduction
- Have EM or GE Proton as your compat layer for ER
- Have PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 in the game's launch options
- Launch the game
- Cursor stays visible from the start, either with the system or the in-game look, it changes to in-game once you move around or change desktops
