Does it handle the case when the regions intersect (Sec. 3.6, Fig. 3)?

Section 3.6 requires that all regions be linear regions, which means that their interiors do not intersect, although they can share the same boundary, as shown in Figure 3. As long as this requirement is met, the approach will be effective.
