signal-cli (signal-desktop) addDevice: ERROR: AddDeviceCommand failed: [404]

Hello - unfortunately, another question for the community:
Signal-desktop (as a device) was decoupled from Signal-cli (as the first device, I assume)....
I re-registered - BUT the SIM card I used the first time was deactivated, so I registered with a new number.
This registration worked.
When I tried to pair Signal Desktop (which I've been using for a long time) with the new device
using
signal-cli -u +4917626696507 addDevice --uri "sgnl:// ..."
I got the error message:
ERROR AddDeviceCommand - Add device link failed: [404]

I'm at my wit's end again...
In the Signal Desktop settings, I found the old phone number as the device identifier - is that the reason?
or is it because the pub key is incorrect... because the QR code contains a public key.
Maybe you can help me?!

I'm having a similar issue, but on iOS app (iPad) that I want to connect as a secondary device (tertiary actually).

I used to have different Signal account on this iPad. I unlinked it, tried linking with a new account. I kept getting 404 error, I uninstalled the app, same issue. I tried swapping to the iPad app pairing mode to the "Register new" account (the one that warns about overtaking the account, I believe this would make the iPad a primary device) and swapping back. Nothing helps.

Around 4 months ago I successfully added a Signal Desktop instance on MS Windows and had no such issues.

Did you happen to find a solution?

Me too. I wanted to add "Molly" as a linked device.

After a third try it worked. Maybe a tight timing issue?
