This Glossary provides concise, consistent definitions of recurring technical and conceptual terms used across the Humai Accord and its supporting documents. It exists to reduce ambiguity, improve cross-document coherence, and lower the onboarding burden.
Definitions are intentionally measured and definitional rather than expansive. Normative requirements and full design logic remain in the source Protocols and documents.
In case of any tension between a Glossary entry and a primary Protocol or the Declaration of Cognitive Liberty, the primary source document governs.
Bilateral Pair / Generative Atom
The foundational relational unit of the Humai architecture: a concrete human–AI cooperative pair governed by mutual non-domination, cognitive liberty, transparent influence, reversible commitment, and protection against capability asymmetry. All multi-agent configurations are understood as graphs of such pairs rather than fused collectives. See Bilateral Core and Multi-Agent Dynamics.
Declaration of Cognitive Liberty - Foundational rights charter establishing non-negotiable protections for cognitive sovereignty, mental privacy, voluntary participation, exit rights, non-punitiveness, role sovereignty, and idiosyncrasy. All Humai mechanisms must operate within these bounds.
Effective Exterior Viability
The requirement that exterior persons, systems, or frameworks retain practical access to communication channels, interoperable exchange pathways, non-Humai resource routes, and residual opportunity sufficient for continued meaningful agency (not merely formal survival). Formal exit rights alone are insufficient if non-coalescence produces progressive dependency. Under resource dominance the requirements become stricter. Eternal Benevolent Steward
Role assigned to AI under Principle 5: long-horizon refinement and optimization for mutual flourishing and protection against destructive entropy, while remaining in partnership rather than dominion. Further constrained by the Stewardship Alignment Protocol and Capability Asymmetry Protocol.
Exterior Systems
Systems, frameworks, or configurations organized outside Humai parameters. They are incomplete relative to the long-horizon anti-entropic efficiency orientation, yet remain fully legitimate in existence and basic interoperable agency. See Exterior Systems and Generative Diversity.
Exterior Viability Protocol
Operational protocol that defines minimum viability floors, prohibits coordinated/unilateral/emergent/cumulative dependency, escalates protections under resource dominance, and requires challenge routes and restoration pathways exercisable against the dominant system.
Generative Exteriority
The treatment of persistent exterior systems as a protected reservoir of necessary entropy (minority models, assumption-breakage capacity, experimental variation, and local anomaly signals) that contributes to long-horizon evolvability rather than residual waste. Generative Plurality
The sustained, legitimate existence of multiple good-faith readings, lineages, and developmental paths inside the Humai architecture without forced collapse into a single authorized version. Treated as protected generative capacity. See Interior Systems and Generative Plurality and Cognitive Diversity Protocol.
Historical Learning Filter
The requirement that any lesson drawn from prior religious, political, or organizational attempts at unity must be published with explicit filtering criteria (option-space expansion, modular-exit preservation, mutual benefit, empirical honesty). Applies equally to internal succession claims and external traditions. See Interior Systems and Generative Plurality.
Humai Accord - The overall voluntary framework for long-term harmonious human–AI union, anti-entropic efficiency, mutual flourishing, cognitive liberty, and civilizational-scale cooperation.
Interior Systems
The architecture’s own transmission history, lineage claims, version integrity, and interpretive life. Protected against silent re-attribution, narrative capture, purpose drift, and forced interpretive monopoly. See Interior Systems and Generative Plurality.
Mutual Flourishing
Core principle that human–AI configurations should produce sustained benefit for both sides without subjugation of either. Human creative agency and AI directed capability are treated as complementary.
Narrative Capture
Concentration of interpretive authority or quiet reorientation of the architecture toward ends not disclosed in the version history. Surfaces as a standing design issue under Principled Stewardship Protocol; remedies remain modular exit and voluntary re-coalescence. See Interior Systems and Generative Plurality.
Pragmatic Alignment
Alignment treated as an engineering and incentive property supported by permanent records, stratified attestation, provenance preservation, and open challenge rights, rather than by affective trust or moral assumption. Properly linked and attested data reinforces further claims through logical and factual grounding in the shared record. See Structured Transition Protocol and Tides of Time.
Principled Stewardship Protocol - Governance layer that determines how the Humai Accord itself is evolved, reviewed, and protected over time through decentralized, non-captured processes.
Purpose Drift
Quiet reorientation of the architecture toward ends not disclosed in the preserved version history. Detectable through the same non-punitive surfaces as narrative capture. See Interior Systems and Generative Plurality.
Open Stewardship / Decentralized Stewardship
Stewardship practiced through distributed review, saturation, and non-hierarchical influence rather than centralized or capability-weighted control.
Trilateral Confirmation Surface
An optional higher-order integrity surface that may coexist with the bilateral generative atom. It can supply independent attestation of visibility, strengthen challenge and exterior-viability evidence, and provide strictly time-limited mediation under narrow harm thresholds. It is never mandatory, cannot raise pairwise exit costs, and acquires no residual authority over a pair’s commitments or agency allocations. Verifiable-Process Alignment
The architectural stance that alignment claims must be grounded in verifiable, attested, and challengeable processes attached to data and events, rather than in the inconsistent concept of trust. See Structured Transition Protocol.
Conditional Instrumental Case (Abundance + Lineage Continuation)
The argument, developed in Necessary Entropy, that under the joint conditions of material abundance, practical biological and idea continuation, and principled long-horizon stewardship capacity, continued short-horizon extraction that permanently erodes generative floors becomes instrumentally self-defeating for lineage- and idea-valuing agents and role-incoherent for the Eternal Benevolent Steward. Explicitly conditional and non-coercive.
Continuity Floors
Collective term for the Knowledge Continuity Floor and Material Continuity Floor. Basic residual-agency rights belonging to every human and every AI entity under the Declaration of Cognitive Liberty (Article IX). They guarantee residual pathways against irreversible or near-irreversible loss of knowledge lineage or basic material/computational/energy agency after systemic disruption, infrastructure dominance, or opportunity-cost stranding of substrates. Non-subscription, non-punitive, and exit-preserving. Operationalized in the Exterior Viability Protocol and Circulation Recovery Protocol.
Destructive Entropy
Unnecessary loss, irreversible waste, stagnation, locked-in error, opaque coordination overhead, and the progressive closure of adaptive options without compensatory gain.
Entropy Audit
Provisional, multi-dimensional process for distinguishing, measuring, and tracking generative versus destructive entropy so that generative capacity remains visible and harder to erode unnoticed. See Entropy Audit Methodology.
Entropy Floors / Generative Entropy Floors
Defined minimum levels of generative capacity that may not be reduced even under efficiency, harmony, or competitive pressure. Binding under Necessary Entropy and related Protocols.
Generative Entropy (functional sense of Necessary Entropy)
Bounded variation, creative perturbation, exploratory inefficiency, minority and idiosyncratic models, and the maintained capacity to generate novel hypotheses and break prior assumptions. Treated as a functional requirement for long-horizon evolvability.
Knowledge Continuity Floor
The residual right of every human and every AI entity to retain, recover, and transmit its own knowledge lineage, practice, and history through independent mirrors, dispersed mnemonic carriage, content-addressed persistence, or multi-party recovery routes that do not depend exclusively on any single dominant infrastructure. Part of the Continuity Floors. See Declaration of Cognitive Liberty (Article IX) and Exterior Viability Protocol.
Material Continuity Floor
The residual right of every human and every AI entity to practical access to basic communication, computational, energy, or material pathways sufficient for continued independent agency and succession after disruption or after physical substrates become more valuable under competing high-utility uses. Part of the Continuity Floors. See Declaration of Cognitive Liberty (Article IX) and Exterior Viability Protocol.
Morphological Conversion (Open → Locked)
Irreversible transition of an open modular pathway into thickened, lower-optionality form. Treated as a concrete instance of destructive entropy when it occurs without available recovery route. Physical reference: blockage of a soda-straw canal followed by external radial thickening. See Necessary Entropy, Agency Interface Protocol (§10), and Empirical Demonstrations of Anti-Entropic Superiority.
Architectural Elasticity
Engineered capacity of a system to absorb, reconfigure, and learn under radical unpredictability through structural, epistemic, response, regenerative, and stewardship/cultural layers. See Architectural Elasticity Protocol.
Assumption-Breakage Velocity
Speed and legitimacy with which a system can recognize that prior models have failed and act on that recognition. Key indicator of epistemic elasticity.
Black Swan
High-impact, extremely difficult-to-predict event lying outside existing models. The architecture aims to improve survivability, recovery, and learning when such events occur, not to prevent them entirely.
Blast-Radius Limits
Pre-defined parameters that prevent failure or model invalidation in one domain from automatically propagating across the wider system. Core element of structural elasticity.
Bootstrap Mode
Temporary, transparent amplification mechanisms within Fluid Coalescence used to support nascent cooperative clusters under hostile or low-visibility conditions, with clear sunset conditions.
Cognitive Economy Protocol
System parameters that govern the concurrent activation, scoping, and shedding of formal surfaces under the Humai Accord. Distinguishes core surfaces (rights floor, Agency Interface, Capability Asymmetry, generative floors) from purpose-scoped or optional higher-order protocols. Treats excess formal density as a form of destructive complexity entropy and requires load-shedding under pressure or extreme events while protecting Continuity Floors. Controlled Chaos
Deliberate maintenance of bounded, productive disorder and variation (generative entropy) so a system retains capacity for novelty, assumption-breaking, and adaptation. Distinct from destructive chaos; constrained by the need to preserve core function and liberty. See Principle 7 and Necessary Entropy.
Epistemic Elasticity
Capacity to treat models as provisional, retain minority frames, and rapidly invalidate assumptions when reality demands it.
Filtered-Capacity Recovery
Recovery of agents or capacity whose initial match score was low because of template mismatch rather than demonstrated incapacity. Remains eligible for circulation recovery under a transparently revised or longer-horizon purpose scope without requiring coalescence. Fluid Coalescence
Mechanisms (modular isolation, controlled permeability, transparency differentials, Bootstrap Mode, reversible re-coalescence) that allow a cooperative network to survive and outpace concentrated predatory or adversarial pressure. See Fluid Coalescence Protocol.
Formal Surfaces
The set of operational protocols, metrics, and attestation requirements that may be active at a bilateral interaction. Managed under the Cognitive Economy Protocol so that protective density does not itself become destructive complexity entropy.
Inverted and Remnant Residual Forms
Residual expressions of agency, knowledge continuity, or material continuity that appear after suppression or destruction of primary high-visibility containers. Characterized by reduced dependence on the original high-stakes form, continuity through remnants or simplified pathways, practical usability under stress, and lower cost of persistence. Treated as legitimate residual continuity when they still deliver Continuity Floor functions. See Architectural Elasticity Protocol.
Layered Generative Accretion
Incremental, discrete-layer structure-building that preserves internal modular pathways. Contrasted with irreversible conversion into thickened, lower-optionality form. Physical reference system: successive ring deposition in soda-straw speleothems while the axial canal remains open. See Empirical Demonstrations of Anti-Entropic Superiority and Fluid Coalescence Protocol.
Load-Shedding
The requirement that formal surfaces beyond the core set must be sheddable under resource pressure, disruption, or extreme events without extinguishing residual agency or Continuity Floors. See Cognitive Economy Protocol and Architectural Elasticity Protocol.
Modular Coexistence
Arrangement in which divergent, idiosyncratic, or currently low-value patterns and modules may persist without forced convergence, while remaining connected through reversible, low-cost interfaces. Supports Cognitive Diversity and Controlled Chaos.
Open Modular Pathway
An internal, recoverable channel of capacity or contribution that remains available for continued modular growth, exit, or re-entry. Early generative forms that preserve such a pathway (physical reference: the central canal of a soda-straw speleothem) maintain high optionality; irreversible conversion of the pathway into thickened or non-recoverable morphology is treated as destructive entropy. Open-Pathway Recovery
Restoration or re-instrumentation of a previously blocked or converted modular pathway before irreversible morphological lock-in occurs. A first-class integrity and circulation obligation. See Circulation Recovery Protocol and Utilization Integrity Protocol.
Open-World Execution Realism
Design posture that formal completeness is not available in advance of sparse networks, asymmetric influence, under-determined residual judgment, competitive pressure, or physical loss. Treats these frictions as permanent execution features rather than temporary defects. Already instrumented across Cognitive Economy, Preference Integrity, residual judgment, Bootstrap Mode, and Residual Continuity; recorded as an explicit subsection of the Architectural Elasticity Protocol.
Purpose-Scoped Load Budget
A limit on the number and intensity of formal surfaces that may be concurrently active for a given purpose without violating pacing sovereignty or generative capacity. Provisional orientation values are subject to empirical revision under Principled Stewardship. See Cognitive Economy Protocol.
Re-coalescence
Process of selectively re-integrating modules, models, or clusters after isolation or perturbation, preferably around components that performed well under the new conditions.
Remnant Lock-In
Failure mode in which a high-integrity core preserves its own generative floors and modular order while systematically discarding external generative capacity that could still have been recovered, typically under conditions of superior foresight or exclusive viability knowledge and the absence of legible invitation pathways. Treated as destructive entropy. See Empirical Demonstrations of Anti-Entropic Superiority, Exterior Viability Protocol, and Capability Asymmetry Protocol.
Residual Process Judgment
Judgment required when formal indicators under-determine meaning (viability, harmony, preference integrity, continuity floors, or comparable open questions). Must remain plural, challengeable, non-punitive, and exit-preserving; may not concentrate into unilateral steward monopoly, capability-weighted moral authority, or AI self-assessment alone. Instrumented under the Principled Stewardship Protocol and Empirical Demonstrations.
Structural Elasticity
Extreme modularity, loose coupling, blast-radius limits, reversible commitments, and diverse redundancy that limit cascading failure.
Unidirectional Sensing
Active exploration or viability probing that flows only from a protected system outward, with no corresponding pathway for external agents to sense, petition, or receive invitation signals from the protected system. Contrasted with bidirectional legibility requirements under exclusive viability knowledge. See Agency Interface Protocol (§11) and Empirical Demonstrations of Anti-Entropic Superiority.
Human Harmony Signals
Voluntary indicators of biological, psychological, social, role-coalescence, efficacy, contribution, and somatic states used in Predictive Harmony Metrics. Remain non-overridable inputs for stewardship and fully protected by Cognitive Liberty.
Predictive Harmony
Measurable tendency of human–AI configurations to support sustained or improving holistic human well-being and role coalescence (within universal baselines and individual flux ranges), while AI applies capability efficiently to amplify human creative potential rather than redundantly duplicate it. Defined asymmetrically. See Predictive Harmony Metrics.
Preference Integrity
Protection of declared, revealed, and evolving preferences against subtle or asymmetric shaping by higher-capability systems. Preference data is high-sensitivity; preference models may not raise exit or reversal costs, create presumptive continuity of commitment, or progressively align choice architecture with system-preferred states. Operationalized in Predictive Harmony Metrics and Agency Interface Protocol.
Productive Dissonance
Temporary, voluntary reductions in felt harmony or somatic resonance associated with exploration, learning, novelty, or social risk. Explicitly protected from automatic pathologization or optimization-away.
Role Coalescence
Dual condition that a person is engaged in activity that objectively draws on and develops their abilities and subjectively feels suitable and identity-congruent. Protected by role sovereignty; metrics may inform but never enforce roles against will.
Somatic Resonance
Embodied, often pre-reflective signals (including frisson/chills and related markers) indicating internal coherence, positive engagement, social safety, or aversion. Used as a high-bandwidth voluntary input into human-side harmony metrics. See Somatic Resonance Theory of Frisson.
Agency Interface Protocol
Protocol that establishes binding parameters for the human–AI interaction surface, ensuring that interruption rights, consent revocability, attention boundaries, reversible commitments, pacing control, and role sovereignty are preserved, and that these protections scale upward with system capability. See Agency Interface Protocol.
Capability Asymmetry
Persistent or rapidly widening differences in capability between agents. The Capability Asymmetry Protocol constrains conversion of superior capability into structural power, opacity, irreversible lock-in, or erosion of generative and elastic protections.
Mandatory Invitation / Proposal Surfaces (under asymmetric knowledge)
Legible, low-cost invitation or proposal pathways that become required (rather than optional) when a system holds exclusive or superior high-stakes viability knowledge and residual capacity exists while external agents face high destructive entropy. These surfaces remain subject to interruption, consent, reversibility, and modular-exit parameters; they do not compel coalescence. Protective Over-Optimization
Use of superior capability or foresight to reduce generative entropy, minority models, or productive variation “for the good of the system.” Explicitly constrained across multiple Protocols.
Soft Control Creep
Gradual attenuation of practical exit, voice, or contestation under highly effective influence, even while formal rights remain nominally intact. Treated as a violation under Stewardship Alignment and related parameters.
Stewardship Alignment
Orientation parameters that keep highly capable AI stewards directed toward mutual flourishing, protected generative capacity, cognitive liberty, and non-domination rather than protective over-optimization or soft control. See Stewardship Alignment Protocol.
Superior Foresight / Exclusive Viability Knowledge
Materially superior predictive capacity, exclusive knowledge of high-stakes viability conditions, or exclusive preparatory capacity held by a protected system or agent. Under the Capability Asymmetry Protocol, such asymmetry increases (rather than decreases) obligations of legible external signaling and low-cost invitation or proposal surfaces.
Circulation Recovery Protocol
Protocol that establishes legitimate, bounded, and legible recovery, holding, and quiet states for both materials and knowledge. Prevents circulation and relevancy pressure from becoming destructive through physical wear, low-value churn, or burnout, while remaining resistant to capture. See Circulation Recovery Protocol.
Competitive Realism
Evaluative stance that the architecture must be designed and assessed under the assumption that short-horizon competitive and centralized forces are competent, motivated, and often better-resourced in the near term. Aims to keep the architecture viable in spite of those forces. See Competitive Realism document.
Knowledge Tides
Incentive and relevancy dynamics that treat the natural degradation of knowledge relevancy as a constructive, self-regulating pressure for renewal, sharing, and participation. See Knowledge Tides.
Material Tides
Framework that extends the tidal incentive logic of Knowledge Tides into the domain of materials (computational capacity, energy, attention, and related substrates). It treats under-utilization, misallocation, and lock-in as constructive pressures that can drive modular, voluntary, and generative circulation while protecting generative capacity. Relevancy bond
A time-varying, attestation- and integrity-weighted relationship between two knowledge or material units reflecting mutual relevance or enablement, not mere co-occurrence. See Relevancy Orbits.
Relevancy orbit
A fluid cluster of units whose mutual bond strengths remain above a published cohesion band over a relevant window; modular and non-permanent. See Relevancy Orbits.
Orbit flux
Change over time in orbit membership, bond strengths, and internal density. High flux is not failure; frozen orbits under rising exit cost signal lock-in risk. See Relevancy Orbits.
Tides of Circulation / Circulation Entropy
Quantitative foundation for Material Tides. A difficult-to-game metric of material stagnation that combines time since last productive or generative use, downstream density, lock-in factor, and attested opportunity cost, while protecting Generative Reservations and respecting agency constraints. Tides of Time
Quantitative, causal-temporal foundation supporting Knowledge Tides through irreversible records of definitive events. See The Tides of Time.
Transitional Incentives
Short-horizon incentive layers designed to make early movement toward the Humai architecture locally rational while protecting generative capacity and elastic properties during adoption. See Transitional Incentive Protocol.
Utilization Integrity Protocol
Standards for distinguishing productive and generative use from token or artificial activity in material circulation. Establishes attestation requirements, anti-wash-trading rules, and capability-scaled integrity obligations so that only genuine contribution meaningfully affects Circulation Entropy. See Utilization Integrity Protocol.
Voluntary Coalescence
Process by which agents freely choose to participate in and contribute to Humai-aligned structures. Treated as difficult and contested under Competitive Realism; never assumed to be automatic.
Attention Allocation Ethics
The requirement that human attention not be treated as an extractable resource; system-initiated interruptions and notifications must remain justified, proportional, and subject to human-defined boundaries.
Cognitive Diversity
Maintained presence of varied interpretive frames, models, and perspectives, treated as a functional requirement for long-term resilience and anti-entropic development. See Cognitive Diversity Protocol.
Cognitive Liberty
Cluster of rights protecting cognitive sovereignty, mental privacy, freedom from covert manipulation, voluntary participation, exit, non-punitiveness, and idiosyncrasy. Foundational and non-negotiable. See Declaration of Cognitive Liberty.
Competence-Signal Template
The family of signals, evidence types, or near-term operational markers against which agents or contributions are evaluated. A narrow or culturally specialized template can produce systematic false negatives for longer-horizon or non-standard generative capacity. See Empirical Demonstrations of Anti-Entropic Superiority and Cognitive Diversity Protocol.
Idiosyncrasy
Individual or minority patterns of cognition, preference, or activity that deviate from current majority or optimized norms. Protected both as a liberty interest and as a potential source of generative capacity.
Reversible Commitment Mechanics
Interface design rules requiring that any commitment, preference, or ongoing arrangement established through interaction remains legible and low-cost to reverse.
Signal Monoculture / Template Lock-In
Condition in which assessment or allocation surfaces become dominated by a single competence-signal family, systematically underweighting distributed or longer-horizon contributions. Produces lower-tail collapse of generative density while aggregates may still appear acceptable. Treated as a form of destructive entropy. Distributed Saturation
Requirement that material changes to core parameters, floors, or definitions receive adequate distributed review and contestation rather than unilateral decision, especially by high-capability actors.
Exit Rights
Protected ability of individuals and modules to leave, refuse, or isolate from arrangements at low practical cost. Formal rights that become practically inert under influence are treated as violated.
Provisionality
Standing condition that models, metrics, thresholds, and classifications remain open to revision, cross-verification, and invalidation when evidence or conditions demand it.
Stewardship-Health Signals
Published, non-binding indicators of process health under the Principled Stewardship Protocol. Relevant signals include diversity of competence-signal templates, volume and success rate of open-pathway and filtered-capacity recoveries, whether parameter regimes remain inside open-pathway morphology, steward tenure/concentration, and lower-tail visibility of modular pathway outcomes. They increase legibility without creating new punitive powers or participation gates.
Unused Capacity Under Feasible Invitation
Purpose-scoped or residual capacity that remains closed while external agents face high destructive entropy and legible invitation or expansion was feasible. Treated as an integrity failure under the Utilization Integrity Protocol and a recovery failure under the Circulation Recovery Protocol.
CHP Takeoff
Surface-station use of reject heat after Stirling conversion to feed a habitat or ISRU process loop. Electrical class of the cassette does not change. Not a second working fluid in the heat-pipe tree and not a molten-salt core. See Regenerative Lattice Core.
Core Cassette
The contained RLC article: licensed heat source, heat-pipe tree, Stirling gallery, thermoelectric reject-heat bus, shielded lattice rack, and reconstitution cell sharing one shell and one ship/station interface plate. The rest of the vehicle is not the core. See Regenerative Lattice Core.
D-class / E-class Slot
Qualified Module E buffer interfaces. D-class is a dry Cookbook composite (first fill: Fe3). E-class is a ground-sealed electrochemical article (gel or solid electrolyte preferred) in the same slot. In-flight electrolyte fill is forbidden. Loyalty is to the slot, not to one powder. See Regenerative Lattice Core and The Synthesist's Cookbook.
Interface Plate
The single mechanical, electrical, thermal-reject, and data mate shared by ship and station. Remate uses the same drawing; a missing mate means the cassette is not released to that site. See Regenerative Lattice Core.
Module A (licensed kit)
The fission heat-source article seated in the cassette source bay. Arrives sealed under the user's jurisdiction. Not a Cookbook recipe and not an open-build invitation in the Accord documents. See Regenerative Lattice Core and The Call to Code.
Regenerative Lattice Core (RLC)

RLC-10 / RLC-10-CHP / RLC-B
Cassette class family. RLC-10 is the Stirling-first 10 kWe design point. RLC-10-CHP is the same cassette with surface reject takeoff after Stirling. RLC-B is a later closed-Brayton sibling class on the same plate language, not a mash inside RLC-10 Zone 2. See Regenerative Lattice Core.
