For now I changed it to
direction = cluster.direction

I would appreciate if someone could confirm if this is right.

A little update, this is not a problem in the actual run_spyral process, but a problem for the spyral notebook examine_estimate.ipynb. I get the following error:

AttributeError: 'numpy.int64' object has no attribute 'value' regarding direction.value
