ARCHive Seven-Day Beta - Trial, Privacy, and Local Records
Please read this before installing.
SEVEN-DAY BETA
This is a non-production beta build. Its seven-day trial begins the first time
ARCHive is launched, not when the installer is opened. ARCHive checks the trial
only at startup, so an operation already in progress is never interrupted by
expiry.
The beta stores an encrypted local trial record for the current Windows user
under:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\ARCHive\Beta\trial.dat
The record contains the first-launch time, most recent launch time, expiry
state, and any trial lock reason. It is not uploaded. Normal uninstalling or
reinstalling does not remove this record. Moving the Windows clock backwards
by more than the allowed correction tolerance may lock the beta. A damaged or
unreadable trial record fails closed instead of silently resetting the trial.
LOCAL OPERATION RECORDS
This beta writes a local diagnostic record after each Copy, Create Archive,
and Extract Archive operation. The record can include:
- selected source and destination paths;
- output paths and file names shown by the copy or archive engine;
- operation type, result, duration, byte and file counts;
- average transfer or processing speed;
- warnings, errors, engine exit codes, and limited engine output;
- Windows, processor architecture, .NET, and ARCHive version information.
The records are stored only on this computer under:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\ARCHive\Logs
ARCHive does not automatically upload these records and contains no telemetry
or cloud reporting. JSON log files older than 30 days are removed when ARCHive
writes a new operation record. Uninstalling ARCHive does not automatically
remove existing records.
TEST SAFELY
Use disposable test data or retain another verified copy. This beta must not
be the only copy of important files. Database backup, disk imaging, cloning,
cloud backup, scheduling, and password-protected archives are outside this
beta's scope.
FEEDBACK
Complete the questionnaire included with the beta package and email it to:
GunborgServers@gmail.com
Continuing installation means you acknowledge this seven-day beta behavior
and the local records described above.
CONTEXT MENU INTEGRATION
This installer adds Explorer context menu entries for the current Windows user.
The entries appear when you right-click files or folders:
- "Copy with ARCHive" — available for any file or folder.
- "Archive with ARCHive" — available for any file or folder.
- "Extract with ARCHive" — available only for .7z and .zip files.
Selecting an entry opens ARCHive with the chosen action and the selected
files already loaded. These entries are stored in the current-user Windows
registry and are automatically removed when ARCHive is uninstalled.
