Text boxes wrong background colour

The text boxes in the main window are not (or should not be) editable, and therefore according to Microsoft's design guidelines of the era should be the same colour as the background.

Can you please provide a screenshot of the issue? It'll help me identify what's wrong

Fom your post on the WACUP forum. The text boxes for the currently playing song, the sample rate and bitrate, and the box down the left of the window shouldn't be white. Being white makes it seem like those boxes are editable. For text boxes that aren't editable, they should be the same colour as the surrounding window. Not sure of the text colour.

I can see how that could cause for some confusion and I think I've seen classic skins follow this type of behavior

This is mostly just my own personal preference and painting the background to the same color as the window background, probably won't really make them stick out from the rest. (We could also argue that the visualizer box, the timer and the playback status are also entirely wrong but we'll ignore that for now :p )

You're talking about the visualiser in the main window? That's fine. The issue is the text boxes.

One of the major reasons for the rise in nostalgic views towards this era of computer GUI is because Microsoft was very consistent in their application of their style, and didn't (well not always) subvert the user's expectation. Something today's UIs do not take into consideration. Making the text boxes' backgrounds white makes them seem editable, which is not the case.

Personal preference? Well, okay. It's not true to the subject of your inspiration, however.

I'll think about this, but it's going to take some time before I can really commit to this project again, as real life takes precedence and I've shifted focus to maintaining Winamp Modern for WACUP for the time being

For reference, here's an excerpt from The Windows Interface Guidelines For Software Design by Microsoft (page 383). It's not a great capture as you can't really see the difference between "Read-only" and "Static Text Field" and it's in monochrome.
